Every year, Golf Digest publishes its list of the best golf courses in the United States. Spectacular marriages of landscape and artistry, beauty and peril, these iconic courses are some of the most challenging and memorable experiences you can have in the game of golf.

So how can you play these great courses? Well, the current list features numerous courses that you can actually book tee times at within the 18Birdies app. Here are just a few of the bucket-list tee times available through 18Birdies:

Pasatiempo Golf Club (Santa Cruz, CA)

Pasatiempo Golf Club's 18th hole

We'll go out on a limb and say that if you ever get the chance to play an Alister MacKenzie-designed golf course, you should do everything in your power to seize that chance. If you're unfamiliar with MacKenzie's résumé, know that Augusta National, Royal Melbourne, Cypress Point, and Crystal Downs are just a handful of the masterpieces he's carved into golf lore.

Pasatiempo is classic MacKenzie. Devilishly subtle green contours, artfully-placed bunkering, and fairways seemingly more sculpted by nature than by man, it is the layout that MacKenzie declared his best.

Pasatiempo is not long by today's standards at only 6,500 yards. Nevertheless, most golfers will still find it a stern test of their games the entire way from tee to green. Even with modern equipment, one doesn't overpower Pasatiempo; one must try to outthink it. And that's just how Dr. MacKenzie would have wanted it.

Pumpkin Ridge Golf Club (North Plains, OR)

Pumpkin Ridge Golf Club

In 1996 at a recently-opened golf course in Oregon, a fresh-faced, 20-year-old Tiger Woods came roaring back from behind in the final of the U.S. Amateur Championship. He'd climbed out of a 5-down match play deficit and was eying a 30-foot putt which would level the match going into the final hole.

In an early example of the clutch shot-making to come in the years ahead, Tiger drained the putt and subsequently went on to win the match, claiming his third-straight U.S. Amateur title. It was a feat that was unprecedented then, and it hasn't been equaled since.

The venue for that important moment in golf history was Pumpkin Ridge Golf Club.

Pumpkin Ridge is home to two courses: the private Witch Hollow and the public Ghost Creek. While Tiger's tournament heroics were on Witch Hollow, Ghost Creek is a fabulous course that almost made our list of courses that deserve to host a major championship. The 6,800-yard course winds through natural wetlands and rolling hills, and was named Golf Digest's Best New Public Course when it opened in 1992.

Poppy Hills Golf Course (Pebble Beach, CA)

Poppy Hills' 15th hole

Located on California's spectacular Monterey Peninsula, Poppy Hills is a new addition to Golf Digest's Top 100 list. But it's an unquestionably deserving addition.

Situated in the hills behind Pebble Beach's coastline, Poppy Hills boasts breathtaking views of golf's most illustrious neighborhood. Weaving its way through the Del Monte forest, the 7,000-yard golf course features immaculate fairways framed by pine straw and native waste areas. As designer Robert Trent Jones Jr. describes it, “Playing Poppy Hills is as close as you can get to playing golf in a National Park.”
